Restoration of antique watches
I work in partnership with Seth Kennedy, restoring antique pocket watches dating from the 17th to the 19th Centuries. I am currently being trained in advanced traditional watchmaking techniques by Seth, with the generous support of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers of London.
We undertake various types of restoration work. When a museum-quality intervention is required to preserve a watch for future generations while keeping its originality, we follow ICON Conservation Standards. This normally involves a minimal intervention cleaning the movement and case, removing corrosion, stabilising the materials and prevent further deterioration.
If the watch needs to run as reliably as it originally did, we polish pivots, pinions and other friction surfaces, bush worn holes, and make new parts from scratch when originals are beyond repair. This allows to restore the piece to its former glory using traditional watchmaking techniques.
